Fragmented Basel III implementation and other regulatory developments

We held a private peer-to-peer discussion (Chatham House Rule) with William “Bill” Coen, the former secretary general of BCBS, on Wednesday 23 March 2022 between 16:00-17:30 GMT. The discussion was hosted at Simmons & Simmons, CityPoint, 1 Ropemaker St., London EC2Y 9SS.

William (Bill) Coen was responsible for developing the “Basel Rules” as the Secretary General of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) from 2014 until 2019. He also served as Deputy Secretary General from 2007 until 2014.

This Chatham House Rule discussion among Bill Coen and a peer-to-peer group of industry leaders will review the latest progress in implementing Basel III. In addition, the discussion will focus on building regulatory and risk management agility, so financial institutions can respond efficiently and effectively to the current environment while preparing for the future. We will address technology and data best practices, and how they could best be leveraged to comply with the forthcoming Basel rules. The discussion will also feature a forward-looking focus on geopolitical uncertainty, cryptocurrency exposures, sustainability, and prudential regulations.
